Just bought 4 engines from a man in London called John who was building a sprint car but has decided to go a different route. I have 2 x 4ltr engines, 1 x 4.6 engine, and 1 engine which was a shelby that now has Darton sleeves, worked crank and heads as well as new cams and stack injection. There is also a porche adaptor plus an adapter for a torque tube set up. Many parts to check over yet and will let you know once I get a list together. Any info on the Shelby engine appreciated. Next time I start the engine it seems it gets stuck at 40 degrees or more, even though the map calls for 18. When I give it throttle, the engine will not respond, even though the map shows a change in rpm and vacuum. Timing light will show 40 degrees ...

I have a low miles year 2000 N* (better intakes, worse exhausts) engine and have been offered a 1998 with head gasket problems. The earlier heads are better as Alan states and there is a bigger choice of cams too :-)

Q. Can I fit the earlier heads on the later block?

Q. Will the sumps interchange (I'm going to have to cut and shut one to fit my application)

Q. Are the intake manifolds the same (making own ITB intake for the engine)

Thanks

1. 95-99 Northstar short block. It came from storage at a college near me that GM donates engines to occasionally. Their auto program never used it, and I was lucky enough to get my hands on it! It has zero miles. The heads are inlcuded, but need some modification and cams.

I purchased a CHRF's N* billet cast valve cover for my 87 Pont Fiero. After (1) attempt by my engine guy, we've found that the valve cover is a bit too big for the engine compartment. I called CHRF today regarding plan B; re-modify the right strut tower and maybe notch out some of the trunk place. Plan A is out of the question since the valve cover is a complete cast and re-shaping the part might crack it resulting in a $300 lost.

I've seen WCF in Tehacapi, CA re-modify the right strut ...

Just wondering if i should change the cams to the 272 ? I don't want a L37 and have no intention on running to 8000 RPM. I plan on studding the block and staying N.A. no NOS either, I want to stay around 6K redline and make as much torque as I can; as an oldsmobile should be. I think its better to be quicker than faster. Anyone have any ideas on this ? I am planning on ordering the drilled timing gear set, because it should help me reach my goals by increasing the low end torque output. It'll ...

Hey guy's it works and runs good.

I did a dyno test that wasn't so good, but I am tuning on it and think it is handled. After I get settled in South Carolina I will find a dyno and get back to work on it.

I ran the car on a Dyno Dynamic dyno (like Zack did) and I was also told the numbers would be low. I put down 205 rwhp from the LS1 and a slick 239.9 rwhp from a 99 Northstar PCM. The 239.9 rwhp is kind of a fluke. I can duplicate this only one run at a time and the power drops off within ...

I am from the fiero forum. I had a low miles 01 northstar running in my 86 fiero gt. Ran really well and put down 290hp at the wheels with a megasquirt set up. The engine gave up on me last summer during a hard sprint on an open road. I finally got around to tearing the engine apart tonight to find a piece from the edge of my piston missing from #8 cylinder. The walls are scored, and the valves have small nicks in them. No sign of the piston fragment. I can post some pictures of the damage ...

Hi, I'm stuck over here in south London, UK, with a 2000 4.6 Northstar in my garage. Bought for an unspecified 'hot rod' project, I'm slowly working on getting it up and running, using RWD and Megasquirt for ignition and fuelling. Trying to find a 700R4 from a 2.8 V6 over here is like looking for rocking horse droppings - very rare!!

Got a few questions that will appear on the forum from time to time, and busy saving up for some of the nice stuff from CHRF!

Cheers...

For those that don't know I have been trying to find a way to rebuild my motor but the project is going to take quite a while maybe a month or two. So my plan is to get a motor from the wrecking yard and just timesert it and upgrade the cams. The one issue that I have is I still want to get optimal performance cause later this engine will be sold I just don't want to spend a lot of money doing it. So the advising begins.

2. My new heads have vin Y cams, should I ...
